That was a pretty cool event, right?! We thought so too! ;) Our launch was co hosted by Phaye Kemp, and she was incredible! In fact, she was the one who gave me the idea to start the blog! Let me break it down for ya..

In December of 2013, I was having some pretty deep conversations with God about what my next endeavors were to be. You know how it goes, we all get pretty reflective and inspired at the cusp of a new year.. So, I'm beating my head against the wall, trying to find a clue, but I could come up with nothing! I'd once been a performing spoken word artist, and It's always been my life's mission to become a novelist (I love a good novel) someday, but those were old ambitions, I wanted something new! I didn't really want to get back into the performing poet's circuit (lots of late nights and early mornings) but I was looking for a platform that would connect me to an audience, much like performing spoken word did... I asked God and myself how I could reach an audience without being in front of one, but could not come up with a solution. These are the prayers I prayed, and not even 24 hours after asking God to send me a clue, my Phabby sends me a text out the blue! And it read "I know what Je'Don is in 2014, she's a blogger!". It felt like a super DUUUUHHH moment, because I should have been able to think of that one myself lol. But I believe God wanted me to know that this was His plan and His Will, so he sent me the answer through someone else, and that was aaaaalllll the confirmation and direction I needed! From that day forward, I got on my research grind and started looking at all things blog related! I soon discovered a need to define something called a "niche". Numerous sources admonished bloggers to pick 1 topic, or area of focus, and that should be your blogs' primary focus. Just that thought alone made me feel CLAUSTROPHOBIC! I didn't want to write about just one type of thing, I had varying interests, and nothing makes me bored, quicker than repetitive, sameness.. So I dug deep and asked myself- What really drives and motivates you? What's captivating to you? What topics of interest could help people learn and grow from each others experiences? The answers to those questions were- LIFE. CULTURE. PEOPLE., thus LCP was born! ;)

But before I could get to the launch, life threw me a curve ball....and my Nana died, in March of 2014. Her sudden death really took a toll on me and knocked my world for a loop! It took a few months for me to regain my composure & equilibrium, but once I did, I kicked things into overdrive! By June, the name of the blog had been decided, and the planning of the launch was in full swing! I strongly believe, that my ambitions were revamped and re-birthed through my Nana's death, and I poured myself into LCP as a reminder that despite her departure from this life, I had to keep on living!

Over all, LCP's 1st year has been a great one! I've learned a lot, joined a few blogging groups, attended countless seminars, and a few conferences... We've received media invitations to some pretty cool events, and we've networked our tushies off! I've even experienced my fist case of "Bloggers Depression" (post coming soon lol)! I can honestly say that I eat, sleep and breathe, LCP! Even if I haven't posted in a week or two, or risen to some preset, stressful, bloggers expectations... just know that, I GRIND! There are lot's more pics missing from several different events we attended throughout our 1st year, but it has been impossible to find them all!!! ;( So, we are going to induct an events tab, so that when LCP is on the scene, the pics have an immediate place called home to go to! lol

As you can see, a gal like me has a lot going on... I am first- a wife and mother, secondly- a business woman/entrepreneur, and thirdly- a blogger. I have my fingers in a lot of different things, and sometimes to carry out one project, I have to make sacrifices on another. Like the big, elaborate blaggaversay I wanted to have. Surely if I launched so elaborately, I'd have to celebrate just as elaborately, right? lol. LCP was preparing to give Birmingham an experience, like one never before! I'm certain that our launch footage shows you guys the caliber of our events, and this one was going to take us to the next level! BUUUUT... #TheresAlwaysNextYear!

Which brings me to my next announcements! :)

I am one person.... and I can't fill LCP with all of the amazing content it deserves because this beast is much bigger than me! LCP is not called "Je'Don's World" for a reason! lolz. I've decided that it's TIME to build a team of contributors who can bring us new life, and perspective! Life. Culture. People. has plans for growth and expansion, and we are looking for a team of writers, photographers, and videographers who would like to be contribute to our very open minded publication! We are looking for zesty people with a passion for art, entertainment, and culture, and if you or someone you know would be interested in joining us, please email lifeculturepeople@gmail.com for more information!
