African Heritage: How to Strengthen The African Body
The cool air hit me like a slap in the face, I stepped out onto the concrete and I took off! I could hear my sneakers hitting the sidewalk... right..left...right...left. I created a rhythm and my feet became drum sticks, the concrete my drum. Whew... "This is what I needed!" I thought. My heart is pumping overtime to keep up with my feet. From underneath my hoodie beads of sweat began to trickle down my face. I knew my legs were there but I could no longer feel them. As crazy as it sounds... I felt so alive!!! Then I stopped.... Hands to my knees, then over my forehead...and I thought to myself, 2 miles complete...and I feel...euphoric!
Have you ever felt an experience similar to this? Where u push your body to the breaking point and it actually hurts so good??? (Lol) This release of positive energy is caused by endorphins, and feeding your bodies deep
My LCP family...I am sending you much love and hope for a great ending to an awesome week, and as promised we are going to get into part 2 of African Heritage- The Trinity: Mind, Body, and Spirit!
Remember the mind is were strength begins but the body was a very vital part of our African Heritage. Physical health was very essential in the survival and building up of communities(tribes)
Again I have been led to share 3 tools that will help you reconnect with this lost part of who you are. Now I could easily speak about our present diets but I would like to tap a bit more into key points that are just as important as a balanced diet.
3 TOOLS TO STRENGTHEN THE AFRICAN BODY
1. Keep moving-
When I actually sat and thought about our heritage, it dawned on me that they were in a beautiful land with vast amounts of space. This meant they were moving to hunt, find herbs, traveling to work and building up their communities (tribes). This was such a essential part of the strength that they accumulated. It wasn't a health trend that motivated them or a cute outfit... It was a lifestyle! I challenge you, my LCP family to move... instead of listening to your gossiping co-worker on lunch break lol... Walk a few laps around your office or take a brisk jog/walk around the block. You owe it to your body and you owe it to your heritage to keep moving!
2. Connect with nature-
Now you may be wondering why I would bring this up and I suppose that's valid... Lol... But nature was a driving force in the physical health and strength of our heritage. We are connected to the earth... We are one. When she shakes or stirs we are as well affected by her transitions. She supplies fruits, vegetables, meats and herbs that can alter our health for the better. When an entity is such a pivotal part of our lives we should learn about it and respect it more. How about this next time you get or take a moment of silence... Go stand in the sun, soak up those magnificence rays(that GO(o)D vitamin D)lol and be grateful for nature. You will feel a shift... Energy being transferred your way!!
3. Learn to appreciate your physical (heritage) traits-
Have you ever had some one say your to black, your not black enough, your hair is to straight or to kinky?? Your to wide or you not wide enough?? Look at you big nose, wow you have a small nose, are you mixed?? Lol
As a person of color we hear all sorts of questions and statements about our physical traits... It is up to us to embrace them unapologetically and then and only then those questions and statements will have no meaning... We will set the trends, we will inspire and we will freely love our heritage!!! Now I can hear some people saying "they are more excepting of us and our heritage... It's on the runway, it's in the media".... Well true enough some of our heritage is on a rise showing up in places in a past life forbidden but is it for our benefit or their gain($$$$) in the end the facade but be broken down and we must organically proclaim self love and self worth... Loving and complimenting our brothers and sisters... Can you do this LCP family... the next brother or sister you see, soak up their beauty and compliment them.
I have enjoyed sharing these tools with you!! Let me know what you think?? Were you inspired to commit to your physical strength?? Remember you owe tour heritage and most importantly yourself to build your physical strength!!! You got this!!! Like, share and comment...
